All-organic insecticide
New all-organic insect repellent now being used on our plantations.
Last week our forest engineer, Victor Valdivia, tested out a new insect repellent with the intention of avoiding the need for any chemical products and, as a pleasant side-effect, reducing the cost of the day to day tree maintenance program.
Victor was educated at the National University of Agriculture here in Nicaragua and he learned there how to create this as a viable organic alternative to traditional chemical products. It is made by hand and includes the following ingredients when making 400 gallons:
1.5 pounds of Chilly
40 onions
8 bars of transparent soap
All this is ground up together and then and dissolved in water. It is then left for about 5 days till it is very pungent which gives us the sign it is ready to be sprayed on individual plants.
This 400 gallons is enough to cover 12 MZ’s of land and is more efficient than using a chemical product and the most important thing about it is that it does not negatively affect the plant or the people who handle it.
Thanks to Victor for bringing such great knowledge to our operation.
